Summary

Part 1

The Miskatonic gang takes their motorhome north, to Ingston Towers, the home of Connie's uncle, Kurt Ingston. On arrival, they meet a quartet of doctors who have been invited to Ingston Towers in order to discuss a contribution to medicine that Mr. Ingston wishes to make.

Once inside the mansion, they find Mr. Ingston waited upon by his staff: Rolf, the butler, and Mrs. Cline, the housekeeper. They also meet Ingston's daughter, Margaret, and his houseguest, a Hindu named Agor Singh.

The evening begins with dinner, which is awkward. Kurt Ingston alludes to his illness, which cost him the use of his arms and legs. The doctors protest that they saved his life, and that they did everything possible with modern medicine. Kurt Ingston agrees.

Dinner is followed by a demonstration in the library. Agor Singh will use the power of his mind to manifest matter from thin air. This, in fact, is the "contribution" that Ingston had invited the doctors to come discuss. Dr. King will have none of it, and storms out. Undaunted, Agor Singh meditates, and through force of will he materializes a skeleton holding a small casket. Inside the casket, there is a ruby. The doctors examine the casket and the ruby, and find that they are real. When he stops meditating, the skeleton, the casket, and the ruby are all gone. The only thing left behind is a pool of blood where the skeleton had been.

Ingston claims that this technique could be used to regrow limbs, restoring mobility and freedom to people who, like him, had lost it through illness or accident. The doctors are skeptical, but the Miskatonic gang has seen stranger things.

The gang and the doctors all retire to their rooms, with much to think about.

There is a phone call! Dr. King's body has been found: he has been strangled to death. The police are called, and Constable Beggs arrives at the house to investigate. No sooner does he arrive than Dr. Phipps is murdered in his room, upstairs. He, too, has been strangled. Investigations ensue. The only clues appear to be enormous footprints and pools of blood found next to each victim.

In short order, Drs. Harper and Timmons are murdered, as well. In fact, Dr. Timmons is murdered outside, in front of Hideyori and D.J., and they see the murderer -- a large figure, with massive arms and legs, which struck Timmons from the shadows and crushed his neck. D.J. fires a rifle at the attacker, driving him away. A quick search of the area finds blood, and huge footprints -- which lead back to Ingston Towers!

Meanwhile, Dusty and Connie run some tests on the blood found next to each victim, as well as the still-wet puddle of blood which remained behind after Agor Singh's demonstration. They are all human. However, the blood next to each victim matches, while the blood left behind in the library is of a different blood type.

The Miskatonic gang speaks to Margaret Ingston, who is suffering from acute anxiety, and is under the influence of barbiturates. She says that her father killed the doctors, because he blamed them for his condition.

Blood... the whole house reeks of it. The air is charged with death and hatred and something that's unclean!

Mrs. Cline and Rolf appear to be aware of this, as well. Margaret attempts to set fire to the house by throwing an oil lamp at the curtains, but Dusty calmly quenches the fire with a basin of water. Meanwhile, Mrs. Cline attempts to lock the Miskatonic gang in Margaret's room, but the gang stops her.

It appears that the motive and the murderer have been revealed, but the question remains: how did Kurt Ingston -- a paraplegic -- manage to strangle his victims to death?

...to be continued...

Part 2

The Miskatonic gang decides to ignore the protests of Mrs. Kline, and go to find Agor Singh to see what he knows about the murderous monster. They search Ingston Towers for him, but he is nowhere to be found.

Stymied in their search for Singh, they decide to seek some evidence about Kurt Ingston's medical history. They search his office, and find the medical records from the illness that led to his current condition. With this file in hand, they look for Kurt Ingston with the intention of confronting him with his crimes.

However, Kurt Ingston is nowhere to be found! Deciding to retrace their steps, they open one of the secret doors in Kurt Ingston's bedroom and look for evidence of recent footsteps. The secret passages are very dusty, and the Miskatonic gang finds footprints. Following the trail, they find that it leads out a side door, into the woods, and down the hill toward the parking area.

Following the trail to the bridge, they are ambushed by the murderous Bigfoot! It clutches D.J. by the throat and shakes him like a rag doll. But the shaggy monster is outnumbered and outgunned. After a pitched battle, the Miskatonic gang is victorious. Their foe, the mad Kurt Ingston -- armless, legless, and wearing a massive racoon coat -- lies dead at their feet.

Just then, Constable Beggs and Agor Singh arrive, pistols drawn. Before everyone's eyes, Ingston's monstrous arms and legs fade away. Beggs is flabbergasted. Singh is quietly sad, and remarks cryptically,

A little knowledge of the occult is dangerous. Unless it's used for good, disaster will follow its wake. That is Cosmic Law!

Constable Beggs, knowing that no one will believe the truth, suggests that the Miskatonic gang leave him to concoct a believable story (although he's damned if he knows what that will be). The Miskatonic gang heeds his advice, and head back to Massachusetts, where the fall semester will soon be starting.

So ends the Summer of 1973 for the gang from Miskatonic -- one they will never forget, no matter how hard they try.
