Liz is a slim young woman who typically dresses in casual but rather expensive clothing. She often wears t-shirts with artwork referencing "cult" movies, "geek" culture, and bands which were popular before she was born.

==Background==

Liz's mother died when Liz was four years old. Liz does not really remember her. Her father was a police officer working in Brooklyn for most of her life, eventually being promoted to the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organization_of_the_New_York_City_Police_Department#Office_of_the_Police_Commissioner Chief of Detectives position in the New York City Police Department]. He died in a traffic accident when Liz was 14.

Due to her family's wealth and connections (her grandfather on her mother's side was a successful real estate developer), the legal firm that manages her trust fund was granted legal guardianship of Liz until she was 18. The trust provides Liz with living expenses so that she can pursue her education and live in relative comfort, as well as giving her discretionary funds which she can allocate to "charitable and humanitarian purposes" (currently capped at $26 million per year, with a weekly limit of $500,000). These amounts are taken from a portion of the interest and dividend income earned by the trust, and are adjusted annually based on the performance of the trust's investments.

Liz is currently enrolled at Columbia University, pursuing a doctorate in Molecular Genetics under their [https://gsas.columbia.edu/degree-programs/phd-programs/biochemistry-and-molecular-biophysics Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics program]. However, she is working on transferring her doctoral program to [https://bmcb.georgetown.edu/phd/# Georgetown University] so that she can be closer to The Agency.

Liz has few friends, and she rarely has the time to be social. Her oldest friends are Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson, with whom she attended [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhattan_Center_for_Science_and_Mathematics Midtown School of Science and Technology]. Peter is now a photographer for the Daily Bugle, and Mary Jane is a struggling Broadway actor who supports herself by being a [https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/10/nyregion/brand-ambassadors-actors-nyc.html "brand ambassador"]. She also keeps in touch with [https://www.tapology.com/fightcenter/fighters/164584-dylan-thompson Dylan "Flash" Thompson], whom she dated in high school. Flash is currently a moderately successful MMA fighter.

==Powers==

Thanks to a freak accident during a field trip to a research laboratory (and inadequate safety barriers around the experimental "helix rethreader"), Liz has a specialized form of telekinesis which gives her the mental ability to control ambient heat energy and allows her to accelerate and decelerate the motion of atoms. She can surround her body with a protective corona of low level plasma (reddish, approximately 415 °C / 780 °F), which she refers to as a "fire shield". While surrounded by this corona, she can generate intense bursts of superheated plasma (in excess of 1500 °C / 2700 °F), throwing it as fireballs and using it as thrust to fly. She has some mental control over fire, including the plasma she generates: she can throw fireballs around corners, and make very simple shapes. When not surrounded by her fire shield, she can still levitate using her latent telekinetic abilities, though with very limited maneuverability.

==Limitations==

Liz does not need ambient oxygen for her powers to work, but she does need an atmosphere of some kind as a medium for her pyrokinetic powers. Also, she herself does need to breathe, so even though she can literally make nitrogen burn, she will eventually pass out without a breathable atmosphere.
